Tyla attended the 2026 MTV VMAs on Sunday as one of the evening’s presenters.

And if anyone was going to deliver a fashion moment that lived up to the occasion, it was Tyla.

The VMAs will always have a connection to Y2K fashion, and style-wise, Tyla is one of this generation’s poster girls for its revival. Low-rise everything, exposed midriffs and body-conscious silhouettes have been recurring themes in her wardrobe, so this Mowalola Spring 2027 look, presented just 10 days ago during London Fashion Week, made perfect sense.

I wouldn’t necessarily call the blue snakeskin look Y2K, but that ultra-low-rise pencil skirt certainly taps into the era. Paired with the matching bra, it feels completely at home on Tyla and, more importantly, completely at home at the VMAs.

The styling is where she really had fun with it, adding a contrasting snakeskin-print choker and snakeskin pumps, while a new contact lens gave her beauty look an unexpected twist.

Then there were the Chopard Haute Joaillerie Collection jewels, including a watch worn around her ankle like an ankle monitor.

This is exactly what I want from Tyla at this event: fun, unexpected and completely in tune with her unique fashion identity.
